About John Manley . |
My professional life revolves around the written word.
I've been a journalist for more than three decades, primarily for the Irish Echo, a weekly newspaper published in New York City. My beats are thoroughbred horse racing, golf and college sports, with occasional forays into other areas. Simultaneously, I spent 16 years in the financial services sector, working in corporate communications, where I composed and reviewed marketing literature, most notably a newsletter that was distributed with quarterly statements to account holders. During this time, I have also labored as a proofreader and copy editor in several realms, mostly for law firms. After a three-year stint as a staff proofreader for a prominent New York City firm, I began accepting freelance assignments. Periodically, I have been engaged for similar work by financial services/investment companies, consultancies and companies that service the training needs of pharmaceutical company sales representatives. Along the way, I've dabbled in several other occupations -- I operated my own landscaping business during and immediately after attending and graduating from college; I hustled beer up and down the aisles at Giants Stadium in the New Jersey Meadowlands during the early 1980s; I drove a New York City yellow cab during the late 1980s; and I worked with thoroughbred racehorses at the New York racetracks at various times, beginning in 1979. You might say I've been around. |
